Travel Backpacks vs Duffel Bags: Which Should You Choose?

Backpacks win on mobility — both hands stay free, weight distributes across your shoulders, and you move faster through airports, train stations, and city streets. Duffel bags win on capacity — the Travel Bag 2.0 and Leather Duffel hold 38+ items and 5 pairs of shoes. For day trips and weekend getaways, the Hoodie Backpack handles it solo. For week-long travel, pair it with a duffel and use the backpack as your personal item.

Backpacks That Work as Personal Items

Most airlines allow a backpack as your free personal item as long as it fits under the seat. The Hoodie Backpack is sized to slide under standard airline seats while keeping your laptop, passport, charger, and in-flight essentials within reach. No extra bag fees, no gate-check gambles.

Everyday Backpacks for Work and Travel

The Hoodie Backpack works beyond the airport — commutes, campus, gym, errands. The design is neutral enough for a work setting and durable enough for daily use. At $79 with a 100-day money-back guarantee, it covers both your travel bag and your everyday carry.

FAQs about travel backpacks

Can I use a backpack as a carry-on?
Yes, if it meets your airline size limits. Larger backpacks go in the overhead bin as carry-ons. Smaller ones like the Hoodie Backpack fit under the seat as a personal item — free on every airline.
What is the best backpack for air travel?
A backpack that fits under the seat, has quick-access pockets for your passport and phone, and distributes weight comfortably. The Hoodie Backpack checks all three while keeping your hands free through security and boarding.
Are backpacks better than suitcases for travel?
For short trips and city travel, yes — backpacks are faster, lighter, and easier to carry on stairs, cobblestones, and public transit. For week-long trips, pair a backpack with a larger duffel bag.
Does a backpack count as a personal item?
Yes. The Hoodie Backpack is sized to fit under the seat in front of you, so it travels as your free personal item rather than using your carry-on allowance.
Is a backpack better than a rolling bag for travel?
It depends on the trip. A backpack keeps both hands free through security and on stairs, while a rolling bag carries more weight comfortably across long terminals.
What is the return policy on a Luhxe backpack?
It is covered by the same 100-day money-back guarantee as every other Luhxe bag.
